Lucy's 30th Birthday present
Lucy's partner Josh approached me to create a bespoke, one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery for his partner Lucy, for him to give to her for her 30th birthday.

Over an initial telephone call, we discussed his budget, Lucy's style, and her interests. Josh discussed that he loved the 3D, overlapping style of the eel jewellery he'd seen on my instagram, but felt eels were wrong for Lucy, and he mentioned instead that she loves birds. Immediately the idea leapt out at me that we could design a pendant inspired by the wing of a bird, but abstract and modern, minimal and edgy.

Josh loved the idea and I went away to create some initial drawings, and I tasked him to find out Lucy's favourite bird, in case there was an opportunity there to incorporate some colour. We were in luck! Josh found out that Lucy's favourite bird is a Purple Crested Lourie, which has beautiful plumage of red, purple and blue.
I created three different drawings for Josh, each with an option for three coloured gemstones that matched the colours of the lourie, and each with different costs for silver, gold, or a mix of both.
It didn't take long for Josh to choose his favourite design, and decide upon using 9 carat Single Mine Origin gold, set with a sapphire, tanzanite and ruby supplied by an ethical trader. All that was left to do was for me to make it, which you can read more about HERE if you're interested.
I was so thrilled with the result ~ there's something about a drawing coming to life that is magical. Josh was also thrilled, and most importantly, Lucy was too! The extra touch of the three stones matching the colours of her favourite bird was such a thoughtful detail for Josh to incorporate. Josh sent me a message on Lucy's birthday to say that "everyone at the party was totally in love with the piece"; it's comments like these that really mean the world to me.
