Sand

I have a huge love for the coast, being brought up near to the sea in Suffolk, where the beaches are all pebble ~ but I can still remember when we first travelled to the top of East Anglia and visited the enormous, mile-long beaches of North Norfolk. To walk for an hour with nothing but wide-stretching sand on every side, the ocean still just a band of brilliant blue in the distance: it felt like an alien landscape, beautiful and terrifying.

To capture the feeling of sand, using sand-casting is a no-brainer. However, in contrast to all the other rings in this series, these are carved by hand in wax before being cast. By using a wax model as the mould, the shape becomes softer, more organic and fluid.

The rings shown here are a 3mm wide band, a 5mm wide band and a 6mm wide band, all made in recycled silver. The 5mm ring is polished, and the two others are matte.  I can make this style in any width you like, in silver, 9 carat, or 18 carat gold. I can also use gold you’ve inherited, if you prefer, or a mix. The beauty of a truly handmade ring is that I have total control over your metal, it’s never sent away to a third party, so that means we can use it exactly as you want to.
